"I Live in my Parents' Shadow"

23/01/2024

Jordan* lives the life many kids dream about: rich, famous, meeting celebrities and going on crazy adventures. However, for many kids under the spotlight they desire the life of a typical child.

From a young age Jordan has struggled with forming genuine relationships. "Even as a kid, my classmates' parents had told them 'Go make friends with him! He has famous parents!' " The shock and hurt wore off as time grew on; even today he is only close with his partner- of which the press is yet to get a hold of.

"They weren't in it to be my friend; they were in it to bag their parents a coffee date with a pair of Hollywood stars."

Aged just 19, the effect that the media has had on him is truly detrimental. Suffering from severe anxiety that has seen him cower away at many high-end events- he is then plastered all over the media as an ungrateful, sheltered boy who does not understand how lucky he is.

Being a young boy standing vulnerable in front of dazzling lights and voices screaming your name, demanding poses, and words from you was terrifying. Even a year after moving away from his parents and the spotlight- much to the media's dismay- he still faces restless nights at the fear of the paparazzi finding him once more.
