"We Are All Born Beautiful"
Jess Tyrrell, who starred in West End's latest performance of Hamilton, talks about the importance of taking time to appreciate natural beauty.
In her performances she wears heavy makeup, as to be seen by distant crowd members. Tyrrell believes this has taken a toll on her own self confidence: "I do find I struggle to appreciate myself as I am, my makeup is now a part of my identity- and I'm not sure I want it that way"
"We are all born beautiful, why are we changing ourselves?"
Makeup has flourished in the last century, particularly with women; becoming something that is expected of girls from a young age in order to enhance their appearance and conceal any 'flaws'. Social media has only ignited this issue, portraying the very perfect and beautiful elements to a person's life and self. In feeding audiences with these images there has been a rise in poor mental health in young people.
The actress claims that she has noticed younger relative, one just seven-years-old, have been focused entirely on their own appearance. "It's not right, we need to change this before we cause irreversible damage to generations of young girls- and boys. These worries didn't come for me till I was toward the end of my teens, social media has ruined us."
